What Kept Me Sane: TV Edition

And now my watch begins. I’m fully back to work, which means no more lockdown or working from home for me. It’s a bittersweet feeling having to return to work but I’m glad I got to spend 12 weeks “resting” at home. How did I manage to go that long by myself without family? Hint, there was a lot of wine involved. I’m going to share a mini series on the things that kept me sane during the lockdown. I’ll cover the shows/movies I watched, books I read, music I listened to and podcasts that entertained me.

Grace and Frankie: These two couldn’t be any more opposites but their friendship blossoms into something beautiful admist getting their lives back on track, starting businesses, navigating relationships at an advanced age etc. Indeed, opposites attract. Frankie getting on Grace’s last nerves and her weirdness kept me laughing most days. Even my best friend couldn’t stop binge watching when I put her on to it.

The Book Club: Watching older women living life unapologetically has become a favorite past time of mine. Imagine my joy when I discovered this movie of four friends in their 60s who discover the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy and the drama that ensues. Can you blame them? This book caused a raucous back in 2011. I can’t count how many times I snorted while laughing over this movie.

Modern Family Season 11: I found out late that Modern Family returned for another season. I thought s10 was the finale so imagine my joy at my misinformation and finding I had a full season to binge watch! Phil and Gloria will always remain a fave and I’m sad that it’s actually come to an end. On the plus side, Netflix blessed us with the first eight episodes for binge worthy days and I’m definitely going to indulge.

Killing Eve: I only discovered this series three weeks ago and I’m judging all of my friends that never put me on to it. All of you, I’m judging you. I’m in a love hate relationship with Villanelle

Blood and Water: Man SA Netflix is on a row these days! I watched this in one seating. It was so good I couldn’t stop even though I needed to sleep. I found myself torn between admiring Fikile’s beauty and wanted to knock that innocent victim look she pulls off so easily off her face. Like girl, you knew what you were doing *eye roll*. I also can’t wait to see what happens to KB and Puleng’s relationship in season 2. Loyalties are truly going to be tested and the results will show if blood is truly thicker than water.

Caliphate: Tensions ran high as I watched this series. I kept pausing to catch my breath and also because I didn’t want to google spoilers (which is a common practice for me). This was the last series I binge watched before work resumed today. My heart was in my mouth for all 8 episodes; love Pervin’s bravery, hate Fatima and Lisha, ugh you deserve a big thwack on the head. If you’re interested in terrorism, radicalization, politics and the thin lines between then I 10/10 recommend!

What about you? What have you been watching?
