What’s The Big Deal?

This evening at a pharmacy, while waiting for the Pharmacist to ring up my order for me to pay, I noticed for the first time how male dominated the sexual enhancement drugs/essentials are. You know how they always keep the condoms, lubes, enhancement drugs at/around the counter, maybe so they can judge you better as they are ringing up your order. Anyways, there I am leaning against the counter waiting for my bill when I look to my left and make my discovery.

Me: What? So no sex enhancement drugs for women?

At my comment, the Pharmacist looks taken aback and asks almost in a whisper “Ma?”. Mind you his voice was a lot more audible when asking if I got everything I needed. So I repeated my question while strolling to the sex shelf to observe better how majority of the items there seemed to be targeted at the male market.

The male pharmacist quickly rushes to my side to continue in his whisper tone as if embarassed to have to be attending to me in an empty store.

Ph: Ma we do have some items for women

Me: So where are they?

He then returns to the back of the till and brings out what I identify as spanish fly, which is unisex and not necessarily tailored to the female market. Why is that? Why are there more products on sexual enhancement for men than for women? Cause the last time I checked, it’s women who have a harder time with arousal than men but that’s topic for another day.

I then collect it from the Pharmacist and chirpily retort that I shall be trying it with my husband and be back to give a review. At this point, if this man could melt into the floor, he most definitely would have. Me? Well, I’m just enjoying the exchange and amused that in 2023 we can still be skirmish about sex.

For a society that is sex-craved, we really do skirt around the topic. We all know that we came here through that one act right? It’s not a taboo to talk about. It’s not a taboo to indulge in (in the right context) and it sure as hell is not a taboo to create female specific sexual enhancement products.

Well guess who found his voice when I was about to walk away, Mr Shy Pharmacist, to ask me if I was interested in collagen vitamins. Plis dear, let’s not lose focus. Skincare is important but sex is importanter.
